It is always difficult to predict how the business year is going to develop. The fact that Britain is crawling out of the worst peacetime recession since the 1930s makes it almost impossible. And yet strangely, despite the continuing reports of economic woe in the press, X4 Group has approached 2010 with a sense of optimism
With the UK being one of three countries responsible for around 50% of European pharmaceutical sales and the UK's medical devices industry achieving an annual growth rate of around 9% - there is lots to be positive about.
Since returning to the offices in the New Year, I think it is fair to say that we have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of opportunities that exist in the market place for both permanent and contract members of staff and the indications for the coming months look very good indeed.
This doesn't necessarily make things easier for recruiters. Though companies may be on the lookout for new personnel, due to lingering financial worries many are still cautious about whom they employ. Whereas previously companies may have taken a chance on a candidate who ticks 4 of the 5 proverbial boxes, they are more likely to hold fire until they find the 'perfect' candidate, particularly for a permanent placement.
Therefore competition for and amongst high calibre candidates is at an all time high.
