Saturday afternoon, 17 of X4’s finest golfers went to the Prince’s Course at Richmond Park for the annual X4 Group Golf Classic. Heavy rain had hit South West London in the run up to the tournament, but the course was turned out beautifully with surprisingly quick greens, lush fairways and some particularly deep rough on what seemed to be a glorious sunny September’s day.
The conditions got more testing as the day went on with intermittent showers and gusts of wind, resulting in the field as a whole struggling to match some of the courses more demanding holes – and with thunder cracking in the distance 3 of the 5 groups had their rounds cut short as the air horn was sounded.
However, with 1 hole to play there was one player clearly out in front – so when the storm passed Director Peter Rabey went down the 18th to finish his round and card an impressive 2 under handicap 38 points / 18 over, picking up the Claret Jug.
Pete also took 11 out of 17 holes in the skins betting with T. Raw (4) and J. Steadman (2 ) – ouch!
A special mention to our other winners, Oliver Griffin who collected his 2nd Longest Drive Medal and Tommy Raw who received his 2nd closest to the pin prize.
The next X4 Group Golf Society event will be the Masters (current holder Andrew Turton), which will take place in October at Richmond Park’s other course the Duke’s.
